Learning Objectives

  • Learn the differences between the Department of Defense' TRICARE purchased care program and the Department of Veterans Affairs community care programs.

  • Provide an understanding of the history of the use of private sector providers and facilities to complement existing military and VA medical centers, hospitals, and clinics.

  • Gain an understanding of performance metrics used to measure provider network adequacy.

  • Provide an overview of the reimbursement methodology used by DoD TRICARE and the VA.

  • Provide a general overview and structure of DoD TRICARE and VA purchased care contracts.

  • Discuss future contracts and demonstrations.
