As interest in bundled payments continues to grow, it is becoming increasingly important that health systems have strategies in place to ensure they are ready to manage these complex programs. But making this transition from fee-for-service to value-based reimbursements is challenging. On top of the systematic adjustments, it requires a vast cultural shift in how providers take ownership of the whole episode of care and how providers, hospitals, health systems, and payers interact. While bundled payments are not new, they have received increasing attention recently, particularly following the CJR announcement from CMS. Many face the challenge of implementing bundled payments while still widely practicing fee-for-service.
